Sturgis, S.D. (KELO) — Motorcycle Racing in downtown Sturgis made it’s return today after months of back and forth discussions throughout Sturgis.

The first Sturgis Tourist Trophy was held back a few hours due to weather, and almost got postponed for Monday.

Despite a weather delay, the Sturgis TT got off and going for thousands of individuals here downtown, taking in the final day of the 84th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

This one block loop has people viewing straight from the sidewalks.

“Yeah with this track it’s going to be really cool because we’re racing downtown through the streets and I think one of the real unique things about this track is how close the fans can get to the track all the way around it.” Sturgis TT Racer JD Beach Said

“I think it’s a great opportunity to bring something new and different to town and to bring business to our downtown businesses.” Sturgis resident Mary Weber Said

People are standing shoulder to shoulder outlining the entire track.

“It’s exciting, I mean it’s amazing how fast they can go in such a short period. I mean we have a little bit of a disagreement with our town and so they’ve shortened the race from it was going to be like two blocks. So the fact that they can still have it in a one-block area, I think it’s great.” Weber Said

For the racers, bringing back downtown racing to the rally is something to be excited about.

“It’s been something that’s been huge in motorcycle history and to be a part of the group to be the first ones to bring this type of race back is really special to me.” Beach Said

With a successful year one, American Flat Track looks to return for years to come.

With three different styles of bikes hitting the roads in this year’s event, American Flat Track expects new bike vendors to show up at next year’s rally.
