SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two people are behind bars, but police are still looking for a woman in connection with Friday’s Amber Alert.
On Thursday night, Police say 29-year-old Lelana Sittingup went into a central Sioux Falls apartment armed with a gun. She and 17-year-old Tianna Bluebird allegedly left the home with a one-year-old boy.
The next day, law enforcement surrounded another apartment less than a mile away. They found the missing toddler inside and made two arrests, but were unable to find Sittingup.
It’s not the first time Sittingup has faced criminal charges. She’s currently wanted on four different warrants.
In addition to first-degree kidnapping, Sittingup is also wanted for aggravated eluding law enforcement and fleeing from police. Those charges stem from a case back in 2021, but records show Sittingup never showed up to enter a plea or receive her sentence, so the case is still pending.
Court documents say Sittingup also has a history of having illegal drugs. She was also a passenger in a car involved in a high-speed chase that reached speeds up to 115 miles per hour. In that case, the judge gave her a five-year suspended sentence. Following the latest charges, that case has been re-opened.
Sioux Falls Police arrested 17-year-old Tianna Bluebird and 22-year-old Helena Bluebird on Friday.
Police say Tianna, who is charged in adult court, was involved in the kidnapping, and Helena was with her when police found the missing child. She’s charged with child abuse.
