MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala’s run in the W40 Palma Del Rio came to a screeching halt after falling to Russia’s Valeria Savinykh, 6-4, 6-2, in the quarterfinal in Spain on Saturday (Manila time).
The loss came after the Filipino tennis ace turned in an impressive win in the Round of 16 over Talia Gibson of Australia, 6-3, 6-1.
Savinykh prevailed over Eala in overall points scored, 67-49 while holding down the 18-year-old to only six games won.
The Russian bet also reigned supreme over Eala, the WTA’s World No. 261-ranked player, in service points, 38-26.
Eala’s exit in the W40 Palma Del Rio is her second straight quarterfinals defeat.
She bowed out of the Open Villa De Tauste-Tomas Arrieta and Altra Logistica doubles with partner Beatrice Gumuyla of Indonesia a few weeks ago.
