SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Buying a new house can feel overwhelming. That’s why some people might opt to remodel instead. This weekend, the Home Builder’s Association of the Sioux Empire is hosting its Showcase of Remodeled Homes.

One of the featured projects in the showcase is the main floor remodeling of a house along West Batcheller Lane in Sioux Falls done by Seykora Remodeling.

“We removed some interior walls to create a much more open space for the family that lives here,” Jason Seykora, owner of Seykora Remodeling, said. “All new floor coverings, new millwork on the inside, we’ve got new windows on the front of the house and back of the house. Then obviously new cabinets and countertops.”

Seykora says it’s good for people to be able to see the finished product of a project.

“Obviously you can look through magazines and everything looks good, typically, in a magazine,” Seykora said. “But if you can truly see it on sight and sort of envision it as your own home, that’s the difference.”

Seykora says remodeling a home isn’t necessarily cheaper than buying, but it’s a different avenue for doing something new.

“It’s just whether or not you truly enjoy the neighborhood and the home that you’re already in and maybe some things are just outdated that you want to update or get up to speed with,” Seykora said. “So, I guess that’s the difference — whether you want to start fresh and make a lot of new decisions with a new home build or whether you want to make some hard decisions in your existing home and make some changes.”

The showcase of remodeled homes is Saturday and Sunday from noon to five. It costs five dollars to get in and see the 10 projects featured in the showcase.
