THAN BEFORE. >> THIS IS WLWT FIVE NEWS TODAY LEADING THE WAY. KELLY: BLATTER CHANGES IN THE FORECAST, — LOTS OF FORECAST CHANGES. THERE IS A WORD SHE IS USING THAT I WAS NOT READY FOR ON A MONDAY, HOWEVER I’M GOING TO LISTEN INTENTLY BECAUSE IT IS GOOD FOR ME TO PLAN OUT. KELLY: THIS IS NOT LIKE WIDESPREAD IMPACT, JUST NOTICEABLE CHANGE. KATIE: NOTICEABLE CHANGE. THE AIR IS REALLY COLD. THERE ARE BETTER THINGS TO COME IN THE WEATHER DEPARTMENT. FOR NOW WE HAVE FULL ON WINTRY WEATHER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. RIGHT NOW WE ARE SITTING AT 46. CONNERSVILLE AT 43. SOME COLD CANADIAN AIR RUSHING IN THE REGION. AT THAT IS GOING TO KEEP US CHILLY AS IT HAD THROUGH THE DAY. CURRENT WIND SPEEDS OUT OF THE NORTH ANYWHERE FROM FIVE TO 15 MILES PER HOUR CREATING A SLIGHT WIND CHILL THIS MORNING. SOME CITIES FEELING LIKE THE 30’S, WE ARE FILLING LIKE THE 30’S HERE. BY THE AFTERNOON WE ARE LOOKING AT BREEZY CONDITIONS. THE HIGH IS 49 DEGREES. NOT A LOT OF CHANGE. THE WIND CHILLS CONTINUE TO BE A NUISANCE FOR US THROUGHOUT TODAY. TONIGHT IT IS GOING TO FILL A LOT WORSE. YOU ARE GOING TO NEED THE HEAVY WINTER GEAR TOMORROW. WIND GUST ARE AROUND 25. OR THAT WILL MAKE THINGS FOR THE 20’S. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR SNOWFLAKES. WE HAVE MOISTURE MOVING IN AS WE HAD THROUGH TONIGHT. I DO THINK THE AIR IS COOL ENOUGH TO SUPPORT A WINTRY MIX AS WE HEAD INTO TOMORROW MORNING. WE ARE GOING TO BREAK DOWN THE TIMELINE OF THE AND WHAT THE COVERAGES LOOKING LIKE. I WILL HAVE A COMPLETE TIMELINE. AND WHEN WE ARE SET TO SEE SOME RELIEF AROUND HERE COMING UP. KELLY: WE’VE BEEN SHARING HOW INFLATION CONTINUES TO AFFECT US ALL. THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX ROSE POINT FOUR% IN SEPTEMBER MEANING IN THE PAST YEAR, THE COST OF GOODS, ON AVERAGE IS UP 8.2%. THIS MORNING, IN MONEY MONDAY, WE WANTED TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT HOW INFLATION IS AFFECTING KIDS IN REAL TIME, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN DIAPERS. WLWT NEWS 5’S MEREDITH STUTZ IS HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE HARD REALITY THIS IS FOR SOME LOCAL FAMILIES AND ONE ORGANIZATION THAT CONTINUES TO EVOLVE TO HELP THEM SURVIVE. THIS IS A ANOTHER HIT AFTER FORMULA CRAZINESS. MEREDITH: YES. IT IS THOSE DAILY ITEMS. WHEN YOU ARE SEEING HOW INFLATION AFFECTS YOUR BUDGET, YOU MAY LOOK AT PLACES TO CUT BACK. BUT IF YOU HAVE A CHILD IN DIAPERS, THAT’S A NECESSITY THAT SEEMS LIKE IT CAN’T BE CUT, ESPECIALLY THOSE FAMILIES BELOW THE POVERTY LINE. WE CHECKED WITH SWEET CHEEKS DIAPER BANK, WHICH IS THE ONLY DIAPER BANK IN OUR REGION. FOR YEARS, ITS FOUNDER SHARED, BABIES MAY NEED SOMEWHERE FROM EIGHT TO 12 DIAPERS A DAY, COSTING FAMILIES 80 TO $100 PER MONTH, AND THAT’S JUST FOR ONE CHILD. GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE DOESN’T COVER DIAPERS SO THE FULL COST OF DIAPERS CAN TRULY BE A STRUGGLE. SWEET CHEEKS WORKS TO SUPPLY LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS WITH DIAPERS. RIGHT NOW, IT’S SUPPLYING TWO MILLION DIAPERS A YEAR, BUT ITS FOUNDER SAYS THAT’S ONLY MEETING 20% OF THE NEED, MEANING IT DOESN’T HAVE ENOUGH DIAPERS TO MEET THE DEMAND. SWEET CHEEKS SAYS, ESPECIALLY IN THIS ECONOMY, FAMILIES FEEL LIKE THEY ARE FORCED TO TAKE DRASTIC MEASURES TO SAVE MONEY, BUT THAT CAN AFFECT A CHILD NOW AND DOWN THE ROAD. >> WHEN FAMILIES DON’T HAVE DIAPERS SO THEY FIND WHEN FAMILIES DON’T HAVE DIAPERS, THEY END UP HAVING TO MAKE CHOICES LIKE LEAVE THEIR BABY IN THE DIAPER FOR TWO DAYS FOR REUSE DISPOSABLE DIAPERS OR SOMETHING THAT’S NOT MEANT TO BE A DIAPER LIKE PLASTIC GROCERY BAG. AND THAT LEADS TO INFECTIONS, DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS, EMOTIONAL TRAUMA OR A BABY AND THE CAREGIVERS THAT LOVE THAT BABY THAT HAVE TO MAKE THOSE REALLY TOUGH DECISIONS. KELLY: COMING UP, WE’RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT MORE OF THE RIPPLE EFFECTS THAT INFLATION CAN HAVE ON KIDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO DIAPERS. MEREDITH: IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP SWEET CHEEKS TAKES DONATIONS IN THE FORM OF DIAPERS, FEMININE PRODUCTS, VOLUNTEERING AND MONEY. KELLY: ABSOLUTELY. A GREAT PLACE TO DONATE SOME OF THOSE EXTRA DIAPERS. NEW ON WLWT, FIRE CREWS IN NEWPORT HAD TO RESCUE SIX PEOPLE FROM AN APARTMENT FIRE THIS MORNING. IT HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER 2:30 ON WEST SIXTH STREET. FIRE OFFICIALS SAY THERE WERE 3 ADULTS AND THREE KIDS TRAPPED INSIDE THE THIRD FLOOR, BUT THANKFULLY CREWS WERE ABLE TO GET THEM OUT SAFETY. RIGHT NOW, ITS NOT CLEAR WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE. WE’RE TOLD THE RED CROSS IS ASSISTING THOSE IMPACTED. A CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY, IN MOURNING TODAY, AFTER A DEADLY CAMPER FIRE IN BATAVIA YESTERDAY. CREWS RUSHED TO STATE ROUTE 132 IN BATAVIA JUST BEFORE 7:00 A.M. THE STONELICK TOWNSHIP FIRE CHIEF TELLS US CREWS FOUND A CAMPER BEHIND A RESIDENCE, ON FIRE. WE’RE TOLD ONE PERSON WAS FOUND DEAD. THANKFULLY, WE’RE TOLD NO ONE ELSE WAS HURT AND THE HOUSE IN FRONT OF THE CAMPER, WAS NOT DAMAGED. BUT FIRE OFFICIALS TELL US ANY DEATH IN THEIR CLOSE-KNIT COMMUNITY, IS TOUGH TO HANDLE. >> IT’S BEEN ABOUT 10 OR 15 YEARS SINCE IN OUR OWN COMMUNITY WE’VE HAD A FATAL FIRE, SO IT’S HARD ON EVERYONE. KELLY: OFFICIALS HAVE NO
