On Monday, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico released all files associated with their ongoing investigation into the “Rust” movie set shooting. Thousands of files were handed over to sister station KOAT, and what we can report today is just a fraction of what we received. In one clip, dash camera video shows a deputy responding to the set of “Rust” on Oct. 21, 2021. When the deputy arrives at the scene, he goes into a church on the set, inside cinematographer Halyna Hutchins is being treated. She is later wheeled out and put into an ambulance. Seven minutes later the deputy makes contact with actor and producer Alec Baldwin. The deputy approaches Baldwin and said, “My understanding is you were in the room when the lady was…” Baldwin interrupts the deputy and said, “ I was the one holding the gun, yea.” On another deputy’s body camera, you can see Baldwin meet with investigators at the movie set in costume. They take photos of him and blood is visible on his clothing. Investigators also snap photos of a gun, blank bullets and what appears to be live rounds. Investigators also obtained the very last clip shot on a camera inside the church. The clip shows Baldwin drawing a gun from inside his jacket and pointing it toward the camera. It is noted, the clip is not from the fatal shot that killed Hutchins. Other files released include Baldwin’s interview with detectives. In the interview, Baldwin explained the moment his gun fired on the movie set. “I take the gun out slowly. I turn, I cocked the pistol. Bang. She hits the ground. She goes down. He goes down screaming,” Baldwin said. Detectives then asked Baldwin about a live bullet being in the gun. “I suspected somebody put a live round in the gun. If that’s a bullet that was pulled out of his shoulder, then someone loaded a live round into the gun I was holding,” Baldwin said. Later in the interview, Baldwin suggests detectives should question “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, on where the live rounds came from. “See a very important question for Hannah is have you ever co-mingled live rounds with theatrical rounds in your kit because they are forbidden to do that,” Baldwin said. Gutierrez-Reed has denied knowing there was a live round in the gun. She has said if there were live rounds, they must have come from Seth Kenney owner of PDQ Arm and Prop. Photos released from the sheriff’s department show live rounds were found at Kenney’s Albuquerque prop house. “I’m rather sickened by this. A bullet passed through this girl’s body. She’s in critical condition at a hospital right now, and I fired the gun,” Baldwin said to detectives. The release of these files comes before any criminal charges have been filed. Sister station KOAT is continuing to go through the files we received and break down what we can. Watch the video above for the full story.
