Ole Miss football wide receiver Jonathan Mingo has had some good performances in Oxford. But not like Saturday.
Mingo set an Ole Miss single-game receiving record with 247 yards (on only nine catches) in the 52-28 win at Vanderbilt.
He set the record with a 9-yard catch in the final minutes, and both he and Jaxson Dart left the game after he set the mark. Elijah Moore set the mark in Ole Miss’ last trip to Vanderbilt, a 238-yard performance in 2020.
Mingo was boosted by three big chunk plays, including two long touchdown catches. First, Mingo caught a 48-yard pass to set up a short touchdown in the final minute of the first half, which cut Vandy’s lead to 20-17 at the break.
And in the second half, Vanderbilt could not cover the senior from Brandon. Mingo had a 71-yard catch and run touchdown pass past the Commodores secondary in the third quarter, then followed it up with a 72-yard touchdown catch down the left sideline in the fourth quarter as Ole Miss erased a halftime deficit.
Mingo’s final numbers: 9 catches on 11 targets, 247 yards and two touchdown catches. Of the 247 yards, 155 of them came after the catch,
Mingo posted his second 100-plus receiving yard performance on Saturday. It’s a number no other Rebels receiver has ever reached in a game in program history.
