Part of the Purple People Bridge is getting a makeover. It’s in honor of the bridge’s 150th anniversary and to promote fundraising to get the bridge fully painted.Crews from Newport-based Baynum painting will be on the bridge today through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.They are painting the entryway arch on the Newport side of the bridge.This is the sixth year of repainting efforts.Organizers hope this will help generate momentum to raise the $1.5 million necessary to paint the entire bridge. “Our re-painting efforts have been ongoing for almost 6 years now and we believe this new addition will help generate the excitement and momentum to finally raise the $1.5 million necessary to paint the entire bridge,” Purple People Bridge Company President Will Weber said in a statement.In 2016, Baynum Solutions provided various paint swatches on the entry to test the shades of purple over time along with the type of paint products.
