MADISON, Wis. – In a new interview, Johnson argued that the Social Security and Medicare programs should be changed to allow cuts and not guarantee the earned benefits that older Wisconsinites have earned after paying into the program for decades.
“Ron Johnson has made clear he would cut Social Security and Medicare despite the devastating impact it would have on older Wisconsinites. During his years in D.C., Johnson has lost touch with Wisconsinites and voters will hold him accountable in November,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Senate Communications Advisor Philip Shulman.
Johnson has called Social Security a “Ponzi Scheme,” even going so far as to suggest raising the retirement age, and supported legislation that would cut funding for programs like Social Security. Johnson has also tried to weaken Medicare by voting for legislation that would cut funding and force seniors to pay higher out of pocket costs.
