Two University of Cincinnati athletes have been nominated for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award.Runner Ellie Leather and swimmer Camryn Streid have both been selected as nominees for the award. Over 570 athletes were nominated from all three levels of the NCAA competition.The nominated athletes will be selected to a Top 30 and, from there, nine finalists — three from each division — will be named.A seven-time AAC champion and five-time school record holder, Leather is a standout on the UC cross country and track and field teams. She became the first Bearcat to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships this past fall.In addition to qualifying for the Cross Country Championships, the Bristol, England, native finished third in the mile at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, marking the first time a UC athlete placed in the top three in a running event at the NCAAs.Streid captained the Bearcats’ women’s swim and dive team and took home the AAC title in the 400 individual medley en route to earning the program’s Most Valuable Award this past season.During the 2021-22 season, she broke the two-minute barrier in the 200 Fly, set a new school and personal record in the 200 IM at the AAC championships, taking home second place.UC has had 11 individuals nominated for the Woman of the Year award since 2016. Previous nominees include Ericka Hurd (track and field) and Emma Roberson (volleyball) in 2016, Juliana Madzida (cross country, track and field) in 2017, Kellsa Mbah (track and field) and Jordan Cotleur (soccer) in 2018, Loretta Blaut (track and field) and Annette Echikunwoke (track and field) in 2019, Hannah Markel (cross country, track and field) and Jordan Thompson in 2020 and Markel again in 2021.Woman of the Year will be announced this fall.
