Stanley Cup gets delivered to wrong house in Denver in mixup

They couldn’t let this opportunity skate past.

A Denver couple got an unexpected delivery Monday: the Stanley Cup.

The Cup’s handlers were looking for the house of Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog in Denver’s Hilltop neighborhood, local Fox affiliate KDVR reported. Instead, they found the home of Kit Karbler and his husband Dmitri Rudenko.

“I saw the car pull in the driveway, and the trunk is opening and there’s two guys opening the chest,” Rudenko told local ABC affiliate KMGH. “I recognized it from all the games — the black chest. And I just jokingly said, ‘What is that, the Stanley Cup?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah!’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure.’”

The two men apparently share a similar address with the Avalanche captain who helped lead his team to a Stanley Cup-clinching victory in Game 6 against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night.

“We stopped there, we couldn’t really see the number of the house. So I said we’ll just go up and knock, what’s the worst thing? They say, ‘Hi, who are you guys?’” keeper of the cup Philip Pritchard told KDVR. “Sure enough, I knock, ‘Hi who are you guys?’”

Karbler and Rudenko got to hold the Cup and had a pleasant conversation with Pritchard and his co-worker. They snapped a single photo of the Cup in its case, and Karbler posted it in NextDoor under “Lost and Found,” according to KMGH.

“It’s unbelievable,” Rudenko told the station. “For me, it’s just like finding a treasure.”
