The former Butler County Commissioner, who was sentenced to spend four years in prison after having pleaded guilty to complicity to commit mail and wire fraud and filing a false tax return has died at the age of 73.According to a Facebook post that Mike Fox’s daughter, Ashley, wrote, Fox died on Thursday. Ashley wrote: “The following post is by Ashley King, Mikes daughter. I’m posting on behalf of my family to inform everyone of my Dads passing. I am, and always will be proud to call him my Dad. The world has lost a great man, and is forever changed without him. He will be missed dearly. We are all very grateful and appreciative of all the love and support. My Dads visitation will be held on Wednesday June 29th, from 10-12, with the service immediately following, at: Princeton Pike Church of God6101 Princeton Glendale Road Liberty Township, OH 45011.”The Hamilton native passed away in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, surrounded by his family, according to his obituary. Fox, who was dubbed “Mr. Butler County,” served in the Ohio State Legislature from the 59th district at 26 years old and remained in that position for more than two decades before being elected as a Butler County commissioner from 1997 to 2007. He then went on to become the director of Butler County’s Children’s Services in 2007 until he retired two years later in 2009. Mike even removed the door to his office and said there’s going to be an open door policy and transparency. Fox’s obituary said that he was a public servant who was committed to helping the people of Butler County in any way he could. One of his most notable achievements was the founding of the county’s Transportation Improvement District, which led to the construction of Ohio State Route 129, connecting Hamilton and Liberty Township with Interstate 75, as well as led to the construction of the county’s Government Services Center and a new jail. The highway opened in December of 1999 and created access to previously undeveloped land that would later become home to Bridgewater Falls shopping center and Liberty Center. Fox will be remembered as a “dedicated servant of the people of Butler County, a devoted father, a loving husband, a proud (very proud!) Papa, and a friend to anyone he met,” the obituary said. After Fox was sentenced in 2012, he said that he was ‘humbled’ by his prison experience upon his release 3 1/2 years later in 2015.
