SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — A dog dies after being shot and left injured in Hamlin County Thursday afternoon.
An incident that left a dog severely injured occurred between 2:25 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office said. A dog was shot and left injured until its owners arrived home, at which time the dog died from its injuries.
The sheriffs office said the family reported the incident around 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
Family members found the dog laying on the deck of the house. The dog limped into the home and laid down and her boys noticed that there was a hole in his hip, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
A veterinarian in Watertown confirmed the dog had been shot. The veterinarian also said the same X-ray showed the dog’s hip and pelvis were shattered and beyond repair and recommended euthanizing the dog.
The time frame has been narrowed to about 2:25 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursday because a neighbor reported seeing the dog limping toward its home at about 2:20 p.m. Family members had left the home at about 2 p.m. and returned home at about 3:35 p.m.
The sheriffs office is asking anyone who has any information regarding this incident to contact the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office at (605) 783-3232.
