Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema went on a warpath against Democratic members of Congress and prominent leftwing pundits over their filibuster hypocrisy.
Following Friday’s last-minute concession by just enough Democrats in the Senate to avoid a filibuster, Sinema went on an X posting spree taking her former colleagues and top leftist talking heads to task.
Sinema walked away from the Democratic Party in December 2022 after nearly 20 years, due in large part to her unpopularity among her peers for her dedication to bipartisanship and, ultimately, her opposition to ending the filibuster. Sinema reclaimed her independent label, having dropped the affiliation back in 2004 to gain more voter support after losing in several local races.
Yes dear the hypocrisy is the point https://t.co/nMHB7Y5tQC

“Glad to see you’ve joined the filibuster admiration club,” said Sinema of leftist political commentator Robert Reich urging Democrats to filibuster. Sinema included a screenshot of Reich’s attack on her in September 2022 for supporting the filibuster.
“Just surprised to see support for the ‘Jim Crow filibuster’ here,” said Sinema of Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, including a screenshot of Japayal’s September 2024 tweet criticizing the filibuster for blocking an assault weapons ban, codified abortion, raised minimum wage, and voting rights protections.
“Change of heart on the filibuster I see!” said Sinema of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, including a screenshot of Ocasio-Cortez’s May 2022 tweet criticizing Sinema’s support of the filibuster.
Popular take from the Left:
If u had eliminated the filibuster & voted for everything that the Left wanted, the threat of the filibuster being used by Rs would never happen bc Ds would win every election & have a permanent majority.
What a breathtakingly undemocratic take. https://t.co/G6m9rlCtvR

Sinema also exposed leftist author John Pavlovitz (in 2022, Pavlovitz claimed Sinema’s support for a filibuster meant she was against Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy) and Congressman Ro Khanna (in 2021, Khanna claimed filibusters opposed the Constitution and American democracy).
The Senate voted against a filibuster, 62-38, on Friday. One independent and nine Democrats opted against a filibuster by joining Republicans in agreeing to cloture: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (New York) along with Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (Nevada), Dick Durbin (Illinois), John Fetterman (Pennsylvania), Kirsten Gillibrand (New York), Maggie Hassan (New Hampshire), Angus King (Maine), Gary Peters (Michigan), Brian Schatz (Hawaii), and Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire).
One Republican, Rand Paul (Kentucky), voted with Democrats against cloture. He opposed supporting continued spending levels he says are unsustainable leftovers from the Biden administration.
Gold price soars as Biden spending levels bill awaits passage. Passage of these Biden spending levels for the rest of the year guarantees this years deficit will exceed $2 trillion. https://t.co/V58vc4QdU7

A divided Senate then passed the House’s stopgap spending bill (HR 1968), 54-46, narrowly avoiding a government shutdown. Only King and Shaheen crossed party lines to vote for the bill.
Both Sens. Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly filibustered and voted against the stopgap spending bill.

Gallego and Kelly cited millions in cuts across various federal agencies as their main opposition to the bill.
Why am I voting no on this CR? Simple it isn’t just continuing the funding of last year? Here are the new drastic cuts.
$550 million from wildland fire management program. Arizona is going to be a tinder box this summer. There is a reason Dems and Reps voted to fund this last…

From VA care for veterans to Social Security for seniors to the National Park Service, Elon Musk and President Trump are wrecking parts of the United States Government that benefit American citizens every single day.
I voted no because I cannot give permission for them to keep…

And yet, both Gallego and Kelly advocated against the filibuster extensively in the past.
Gallego promised to abolish the filibuster as part of his campaign to take over Sinema’s seat, specifically to codify abortion.
I’m running for U.S. Senate to codify Roe, and I’ll wave the filibuster to get it done.

Kelly voted to abolish the filibuster in 2022.
If we have to chose between the filibuster and preserving Roe vs Wade, it will be an easy choice. The filibuster must go.
