INDIANAPOLIS — A grand jury has indicted a man who allegedly caused a fatal crash in Indianapolis in 2023.
Charging documents filed in Marion County Superior Court on Friday indicate 44-year-old Bradley Woods of Indianapolis was intoxicated when he caused a crash that left 20-year-old Avery May dead on Dec. 23, 2023.
At the time of the crash, police provided few details about the parties involved in it or the circumstances that led to it. Previous reporting indicates the crash unfolded near the intersection of Southport Road and Little Oak Lane around 8:55 p.m.
IMPD initially reported that May was critically injured in the crash. The agency later confirmed that he did not survive the injuries he sustained.
Court records indicate Woods did not stay at the intersection of Southport Road and Little Oak Lane after the crash. Per charging documents, Woods failed to give police his name, address and the registration of the vehicle he was driving.
Court documents also report that Woods did not try to provide reasonable assistance to May at the scene or immediately report the crash to a 911 operator.
A public police report indicates law enforcement officially arrested Woods on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Among the 21 charges Woods faces are failure to remain at the scene of a crash resulting in death, causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, reckless homicide, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, obstruction of justice and reckless driving at an unreasonably high or low speed.
Indiana’s court reporting system indicates Woods is due in court for an initial hearing on Tuesday.
Paige Woods, 31, is listed as a co-defendant in Woods’ case. Court records indicate Woods has been charged with obstruction of justice — a Level 6 Felony — for removing “the blood of Bradley Woods with the intent to prevent said item from being produced or used as evidence in a criminal investigation.”
According to public records, Paige Woods is also due in court for an initial hearing on Tuesday. An Indiana license indicates Paige and Bradley Woods are married.
Court records report that both Paige and Bradley Woods have posted bond.
Bradley Woods’ bonds were set at $80,000 surety and $10,000 cash. Paige Woods’ bond was set at $250 cash.
As of this article’s publication, little additional information on Bradley and Paige Woods’ cases have been made available.
