The US Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service is conducting its Cash Rents and Leases survey– and encourages farmers and ranchers to fill them out by the end of the day today (June 20, 2022).
This survey can be completed and returned by mail, over the phone or at agcounts.usda.gov.It provides the basis for estimates of the current year’s cash rents paid for irrigated cropland, non-irrigated cropland and permanent pasture.
NASS’ South Dakota State Statistician Erik Gerlach says survey responses from as many farm operations as possible help calculate more accurate rental rates. He says by correctly filling out this survey, the final data will accurately represent your part of the state.
Gerlach says in accordance with federal law, survey responses are kept confidential. He says survey results will be available in aggregate form only to ensure that no individual producer or operation can be identified. NASS will publish the survey results toward the end of August (Aug. 26, 2022) at quickstats.nass.usda.gov/.
