Hello, State Senator Van Wanggaard here, proudly representing Wisconsin’s 21st District.
Last week the State Senate passed a proposed constitutional amendment requiring a valid photo ID to vote. Earlier this week, the Assembly approved the same measure.
This means that on your April 1st ballot, you will have the opportunity to enshrine Wisconsin’s voter ID law into Wisconsin’s constitution, ensuring that rouge judges and justices won’t overturn it.
I voted in favor of this legislation because it’s a common-sense way to ensure your vote counts by preventing fraud and safeguarding the integrity of our elections.
Polls consistently show broad, bipartisan support for voter ID laws. A recent Gallup poll found that 79% of Americans, across party lines, support requiring photo identification to vote.
Think about all the everyday things you need an ID for: driving a car, buying alcohol, boarding a plane, renting or buying a home, getting married, picking up certain medications, opening a bank account, adopting a pet from the Humane Society, or even getting a library card. Thirty-six states already require some form of ID to vote.
ID checks are common because they’re quick, effective, and free to obtain. They provide a simple way to confirm age and identity.
Now, it’s up to YOU to decide. This important question will be on your April 1st ballot. Don’t forget to make your voice
heard – vote on or before April 1st!
