The mild stretch of weather began Monday with highs in the mid-to-upper 40s across the region. This will be our default weather pattern for Christmas 2024 with clouds keeping things consistent over the next few days. Also if you haven’t heard already, no White Christmas for this year in Central Indiana due to the rain and warmth around.

Some light showers are around Monday evening. The activity will be scattered and will quickly exit through the evening. Clouds will stick around keeping temperatures in the lower 40s for the evening and upper 30s for the overnight hours. Because of the rain, some fog is possible for Christmas Eve. The holiday this year will be copy-and-paste with highs in the 40s on both days and clouds dominating.

Most of Christmas Eve will be dry but the most widespread rain will overnight into Christmas morning. The activity will be light but steady with umbrellas and rain gear being needed on Christmas. See the slideshow below for the latest Futurecast timing of the Christmas rain.

This year will join a group of 65 Christmas Days where measurable rain occurred. Since 1871, 42% of all Christmas Days had measurable rain. The rainiest Christmas on record was 19 years ago back in 2005. It will be the second consecutive year with measurable rain on Christmas.

If you are looking for a White Christmas, you need to head north into the Upper Midwest or into New England. Those spots will have at least an inch of snow on the ground Christmas morning.

After Christmas, the rain sticks around. The clouds also stay with temperatures continuing to go up. By Thursday and Friday, highs will surpass 50° and peak during the last weekend of 2024. These are numbers a good 15-20° above average for this time of the year. The new year will start mild, too. However, we’re beginning to see signs of colder days as we get further into January. Stay tuned!
