SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A major piece of the Steel District in Downtown Sioux Falls is now open.

One by one shops and restaurants have been opening for business in the development.

Now, a hotel is welcoming guests.

The Canopy by Hilton has been open for just over two weeks in the Steel District in downtown Sioux Falls.

The hotel features over 200 rooms, an Italian restaurant, coffee shop, and more.

“The feedback we’re receiving from everybody walking through the doors is this wow factor. When they see it they can’t believe this exists in Sioux Falls,” Canopy by Hilton Sioux Falls Downtown General Manager Hristiyana Ralinova said.

Lloyd Companies Chief Operating Officer Jake Quasney says seeing the hotel open is a relief.

“We’ve been working on this project for so long, so to see it come together, to see it completed, and see the team at Hilton delivering on it is just awesome to see what we have here,” Quasney said.

The Steel District broke ground in 2021.

“Everything that we’ve started construction on is complete. There’s some future phases as you go south, but for right now we are wrapping up all the little loose ends, we’re punchlisting it, and finishing things up here,” Quasney said.

And he’s excited to welcome more people to the new development.

“I know getting people comfortable with a parking ramp and all those sort of things is a lot, but there’s a lot to experience here. Come down and check it out. We’re excited to have you,” Quasney said.

“We’re extremely pleased to be part of such a development as the steel district and bringing that experience to Sioux Falls,” Ralinova said.

Quasney says the Steel District continues improving its signs to help people find their way around.
