SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The Sioux Falls Police Department has released the name of the woman who died after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning.
Shortly before 3:30 a.m., police were called to the intersection of Innovation St. and Career Ave. where Veronica Lynn Honkamp-Martin, 28, was found on the road. She died at the scene.
SFPD spokesperson Sam Clemens said officers believe they’ve identified the suspect vehicle, but have made no arrests as of Monday morning.
Clemens added that detectives are relying on camera footage and witnesses to piece together what happened before and after the accident.
“If anybody has information, if they saw anything unusual that time of morning, we’d like them to call police or crime stoppers,” Clemens said during Monday’s police briefing.
“We’re hoping that people will have some information that can help guide that investigation
In an email to KELOLAND News, Clemens said the case is considered an open fatal motor vehicle investigation. No charges will be filed until the investigation is complete.
Clemens reminded both motorists and pedestrians to stay aware on the roads and following traffic signals.
“Ultimately, it really involves pedestrians paying attention, crossing where they’re supposed to, watching for traffic and motorists paying attention to the road.
Due to the ongoing investigation, police are unsure of where Honkamp-Martin was when she was hit.
