SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Gov. Kristi Noem appointed Judge Abigail Howard to the Third Judicial Circuit Court.
Howard has served as a magistrate judge for the Third Judicial Circuit and handled cases in Brookings, Beadle, Codington, Lake and Moody counties since 2018. She was elected as the Brookings County State’s Attorney in 2016. Prior to that, she joined the office as a prosecutor in 2013.
“In addition to Abbey’s current experience on the bench, she was raised with service to others as a foundational principle,” Noem said in a news release. “I am confident she will continue to serve the people in her circuit and our state with compassion, fairness and excellence.”
Howard grew up in Volga before getting her degree from South Dakota State University. She received her juris doctorate from the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law
South Dakota’s Third Circuit Court includes the following counties: Beadle, Brookings, Clark, Codington, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Hand, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake, Miner, Moody and Sanborn.
