NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A Henry County man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly beating up his mother and trying to suffocate her with plastic wrap during a dispute over missing money.
Dylan L. Moles, 27, of New Castle, was arrested last week outside a local Discount Tobacco store after fleeing his family’s home. He has since been booked into jail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, domestic battery and strangulation.
Plastic wrap attack
New Castle police crews were called around 4:15 p.m. last Friday to a local home in reference to a son who was “beating on” his mother. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a visibly injured woman who said her son Dylan had tried to kill her.
The victim said while she was sitting at her computer desk, her son had attacked her from behind. Court documents state that the son – identified as Moles – had recently bonded out of jail and had been living in the home for about two weeks.
The woman said that she initially struggled during the attack as her son got her into a headlock and dragged her onto a bed – punching her in the head along the way. She also told police he’d used “Saran wrap” to try and suffocate her, wrapping it around her nose and mouth.
Police wrote in their report that the woman had visible redness and injuries on her face and that she was in pain and upset. They also observed a roll of plastic wrap on the ground near her. The woman was then taken to Ball Memorial Hospital for a potential skull fracture.
Several witnesses corroborated the woman’s story and said that Moles had “calmly” left the house on foot after the attack. Soon after, officers patrolling the area found Moles outside of a Discount Tobacco store.
Interview, admission
Moles spoke with police and explained what had happened at the home, reportedly admitting to the crimes in the process. He told officers that he suspected his mother of stealing $1,000 from his CashApp account and said that she continued to deny taking the money.
Court documents detail how Moles planned to violently confront his mother about the money and “convince her that he was not a little boy and that she couldn’t push him around.” Moles told officers that he is trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and knew he “did some damage.”
When asked for clarification, Moles said he checked to make sure the house was empty before approaching his mother from behind and attacking her with the plastic wrap. He said they then struggled onto a nearby bed where he “kneed” and punched her in the head several times.
Moles told officers he “never intended to hurt” his mother but continued to describe holding her in a tight headlock as she yelled for help. When asked why he stopped the attack, Moles said he heard other people in the house and decided to leave.
Police noted that, during his interview, Moles seemed calm and showed no remorse for his actions. Furthermore, at no point did he ever ask about his mother’s condition or if she was okay.
Arrest, criminal history
After the interview, Moles was arrested by police and booked into the Henry County Jail on the following charges:
- Attempted Murder – Level 1 Felony
- Aggravated Battery – Level 3 Felony
- Domestic Battery – Level 5 Felony
- Strangulation – Level 6 Felony
No bond information has been made public in Moles’ case. An initial hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 4 in Henry Circuit Court 1.
Online court records show that the 27-year-old Moles has an extensive criminal history in Indiana. Between 2017 and Nov. 2024, he has been charged with crimes including:
- Residential entry
- Criminal trespassing
- Criminal mischief
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated
- OWI endangering a person
- Public intoxication
- Driving while suspended
- Driving while suspended with a prior conviction
- Speeding
Most recently, Moles was charged on Nov. 18, 2024, with residential entry and criminal trespassing in Henry County.
Jail records show he bailed out of jail in that case on a $350 cash bond with a $5,000 surety. An initial hearing in that case is scheduled for Dec. 5.
