VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI — I-94 is shut down in both directions due to a multi-vehicle crash, the Michigan State Police reports on Monday, Dec. 2.
A crash happened on westbound I-94 at near Hartford, at Exit 46, closing the freeway, the Michigan Department of Transportation reports. Additionally, all eastbound lanes I-94 are closed at Exit 41, near Watervliet in Berrien County, for another crash, MDOT said at 1:12 p.m.
MSP confirmed both closures. It is unknown if there are any injuries, police said.
Seven semitrucks were involved in three different crashes on I-94 between Exit 41 and Exit 46, a Van Buren County Central Dispatch official said. About 10 to 15 vehicles were also involved, he said.
This area is roughly 30 miles west of Kalamazoo, split between Van Buren and Berrien counties.
Drivers are asked to use alternate routes until further notice and drive safely.
Heavy snow is impacting travel, police said.
A winter storm starting up on Monday is expected to bring accumulating snow to parts of the state, including Southwest Michigan.
