SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — From wheelchairs to canes, Owen’s Outfitters is full of donated medical equipment and supplies.
Mike Turner is the executive director of the free medical equipment lending library, a program of The Legacy Foundation.
“Folks come and tell me they need a piece of medical equipment and we just give it to them. That’s as complicated as it gets,” Turner said.
An online bulletin board is helping Turner spread the word about Owen’s Outfitters and generate community support.
It’s called The Giving Depot, a resource made available by the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation.
“We have so many worthwhile non-profits, and we have so many people who want to do great things, but it’s overwhelming, right? There are so many great opportunities to give too, sometimes you don’t know where to start, so the Giving Depot is a great place to connect donors with non-profits,” SFACF Chief Philanthropy Officer Mary Kolsrud said.
The Giving Depot is free for nonprofits. Organizations can post about their projects and programs and how the community can help.
“Right now our ask is just that basically $50 will help us deliver a hospital bed, an electric wheelchair, some of these really big pieces of durable medical equipment that families struggle to get,” Turner said.
Donors can browse the different giving opportunities, which change throughout the year.
“We encourage the community to check it out and see something they might find interesting that they can give back to,” Kolsrud said.
Turner says the Giving Depot is making a difference for Owen’s Outfitters.
