SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A local gym is doing its part to help give back ahead of the holiday season.
Feet move quickly, as people train with Bryce Snyder at Redline Athletics.
“We’re a youth strength and agility facility. So we focus on youth athletics ages 8 to 18,” Owner of Sioux Falls Redline Athletics, Bryce Snyder said.
While the gym specializes in athletic training, this Saturday they are partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for a bedding drive. At the drive, they are asking people to bring in donations for the organization.
“Donations of new pillows, new sheets sets, new comforter sets. And of course, we are always accepting financial donations which go to fund the lumber and the mattresses needed to deliver the bed,” Sioux Falls Sleep in Heavenly Peace Vice President, Jody Nour said.
For people who bring in a donation, their kids in turn can get a free training session at the gym that day.
“Younger kids will come with my wife Marissa, and then I’ll take the older kids will do much more of a more in-depth training session, then the younger kids will have kind of a game session type,” Snyder said.
All in an effort to provide beds to children who don’t have one.
“But just like having warm clothes and a full belly, a good night’s sleep is a core element of a child having a successful day at school,” Nour said.
“If a kid’s going home and he’s got to sleep on the floor, that is a huge mental drag on that kid. But if he gets to come home, he’s got a warm, cozy bed to sleep in just mentally. I think that that makes a huge difference for the kid,” Snyder said.
Since the Sioux Falls chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace relaunched in June of this year, they have delivered over 109 beds, and they have a goal to reach 200 by the end of the year.
