SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A South Bend police officer was arrested early Sunday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the South Bend Police Department, 35-year-old David Finn was arrested on a preliminary charge of misdemeanor domestic battery. Finn’s arrest came after SBPD received a notification that indicated a domestic violence incident involving a South Bend police officer had occurred.

As of 11:08 a.m. Sunday, Finn was being held at the St. Joseph County Jail. SBPD confirmed that Finn has been relieved of all policing duties, pending further criminal investigation.

Finn was already on restrictive duty before Sunday’s incident. He was on restrictive duty because he was part of an investigation surrounding a separate, off-duty incident.

SBPD has reported that Finn was off-duty when he was arrested. Police also believe the incident Finn was arrested for occurred while he was off-duty.

Finn was sworn in as an SBPD officer in July 2022. The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office will make final charging decisions in Finn’s case.
