Travis Hunter, Colorado
Odds entering Saturday: -125
Numbers vs. Utah: 5 catches, 55 yards (plus 5 rushing), 1 TD; 3 tackles, 1 INT, 1 pass defended
Note: The odds-on favorite to claim the Heisman Trophy only bolstered his chances Saturday, including an incredible highlight-reel grab in CU’s 49-24 dismantling of the Utes at Folsom Field.
Dillon Gabriel, Oregon
Odds entering Saturday: +375
Numbers at Wisconsin: Completed 22 of 31 throws for 218 yards with one interception
Note: Dillon currently holds the record for most career touchdowns, passing Case Keenum’s mark of 178 last week at Maryland. So, naturally, he put up exactly zero touchdowns in a ho-hum performance Saturday as the Badgers defense kept him in check.
Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
Odds entering Saturday: +450
Numbers at San Jose State: Rushed for159 yards and three touchdowns
Note: Conventional wisdom says Jeanty won’t win the Heisman because he plays at a Group of 5 school. The last person to pull that off was Navy’s Roger Staubach in 1963. But Jeanty entered Saturday with 1,734 yards on the season.
Cam Ward, Miami
Odds entering Saturday: +850
Miami did not play this week.
Note: Against Georgia Tech last week, Ward completed 25 of 39 throws for 348 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Hurricanes’ first loss of the season. He has an opportunity to put up gaudy numbers next week against a middling Wake Forest team.
Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
Odds entering Saturday: +5000
Numbers against Utah: 30-of-41 passing for 340 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT
Note: Sanders remains a longshot, but he’s making a case for himself. Is there room in Boulder for two Heisman finalists?
