After losing in the Dome a year ago to Parkston, Howard went on a tear through their schedule this year straight back to the State Championship where they avenged that loss with a 38-30 victory. Howard’s defense all season was almost impossible to break through as they only averaged around three-points given up per game all season. Wolsey-Wessington was able to use their air-raid attack to hang 30 points on the vaunted defense, but it wasn’t enough to stop Howard from running the ball at will. Howard used six different ball-carriers to exploit WW’s defense as they were able to chew up clock and keep the pace of the game in their favor.
The outstanding lineman from this game was Luke Koepsell of Howard, the outstanding back from the game was senior Carson Hinker of Howard, and the Joe Robbie MVP of the game was Luke Koepsell as well with 7 tackles, a sack, over 100 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
This is Howard’s fifth State Championship in their programs history, and they finish it with an undefeated, 12-0 season. Congratulations to the Howard Tigers!
