SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Now that Halloween is over, many of us are setting our sights toward the next holidays.

In the Midwest, winters tend to be cold, so many might opt to head somewhere warmer for the holidays.

“Holiday vacationers are all about the Caribbean. We see a lot of Jamaica, Punta Cana, Mexico,” Megan Harry, a travel agent with All About Travel, said.

If you do want to take a flight this Christmas, Harry Suggests booking your trips sooner rather than later.

“I mean, there’s no end date, there’s no expiration date that, oh if you don’t book by this date, it’s gone, it’s over, you got no luck,” Harry said. “We can always find something. It’s all about flexibility – being able to adjust dates, being able to move things around.”

Flexibility could also save you some money.

“Even if it’s pushing it a day or two before, that can always save hundreds of dollars,” Harry said.

If you’re wanting to stay more local for your holidays but maybe want to host a festive party, you might want to start booking your event spaces and vendors now.

“Especially if you’re planning a weekend party, there’s only so many Saturdays in the month, especially for holiday season,” Amy Boes, venue director and co-owner of Casetta Event Space, said.

Boes says they do still have a few dates left at their three locations in Sioux Falls, including the new Monick Yards downtown.

“So, Monick Yards we always recommend booking further in advance and kind of basing your party, if you will, off of availability of the venue just because it is, you know, it books up,” Boes said.

Her tip for anyone planning a holiday event is to get creative.

“Just having fun with it and getting creative with the theme. Everybody loves a theme,” Boes said.

According to travel trends compiled by Google Flights, prices for domestic trips around Thanksgiving have been lowest 45 days before departure. For Christmas, prices have been lowest 58 days before departure.
