MADISON – The Dane County Clerk’s Office is excited to announce the launch of a text messaging service to increase voter participation and to provide critical information about the upcoming election. Beginning today, voters across Dane County will receive several text messages with instructions and reminders on how to vote in the Nov. 5 election.
More importantly, this new communication channel will also be used if the need arises to communicate to the public in an unexpected situation, such as an unplanned change in a polling location.
Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 30, marked the launch of this new service. Text messages will come from the number 28948.
Dane County encourages all residents to take advantage of this resource for the upcoming election. If you did not receive a message, you can text VOTE to 28948 to receive future Election Day information and updates. (The text will note: Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt-out).
Only three texts, including the one sent Wednesday, are planned in advance. They will reference information that can be found using the official MyVote Wisconsin website, but they do not contain links, nor will they ask for any information or any reply.
“Our goal is to find as many channels as possible for open and timely communication if and when it is needed by Dane County residents,” said Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell.
