INDIANAPOLIS — A man was found dead on the side of the road in eastern Indianapolis on Saturday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Washington Street and North Grant Avenue around 7:59 p.m. to check the welfare of a person. When officers arrived on the scene, they located an adult male lying on the side of the road.

IMPD confirmed the man was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m.

Police initially said they were at the scene for a routine death investigation. At that time, IMPD confirmed a homicide unit was assisting with the investigation because the decedent was found on the side of the road.

In press release sent around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, IMPD officially announced it was investigating the man’s death as a homicide. In the release, police indicated the man had sustained “injuries consistent with trauma.”

At this point in their investigation, police do not believe any vehicles were implicated in the man’s death.

Police have not identified any witnesses that may have seen what happened to the man. The person who called police to the scene found the victim lying on the side of the road.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office is assisting IMPD with its investigation. MCCO will confirm the man’s exact manner and cause of death. The coroner’s office will also release the decedent’s name once his family has been properly notified of his death.

IMPD is asking those with information to contact detective TyAnn Lambert at (317) 327-3475 or [email protected]. Alternatively, tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana by calling (317) 262-8477, using the P3Tips mobile app or visiting www.CrimeTips.org.
