SHERIDAN, Ind. — A suspect has been arrested for stealing political signs from a yard in Sheridan.

According to a press release from the Sheridan Police Department, at around 11 a.m. Saturday, officers received a report that indicated a theft had occurred at a residence on Mule Barn Road. SPD described the stolen items as “yard signs supporting an upcoming political topic.”

The victim of the theft told police they had noticed multiple signs had been taken from their yard over a period of time. The victim also indicated they had placed a tracking device on one of the signs that was stolen from their yard.

The GPS device led police to a home in Sheridan. Officers later obtained a warrant and searched the residence.

After the warrant was executed, a suspect was arrested and criminally charged.

“Taking preventative steps to protect and prevent the theft of your property is encouraged,” SPD wrote in its release. “Thanks to the aid this citizen provided, officers were able to promptly complete an investigation.”

SPD did not name the suspect it arrested, nor did the agency reveal the charges the person faces.
