RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) –The Humane Society of the Black Hills is currently at full capacity.
You can find everything from dogs and cats to snakes at the Humane Society of the Black Hills, and they’re all looking for new homes.
“We do everything we can in house to push them through. Every animal has a direct pathway through our shelter. Hoping to get the process sped up a bit but we need a lot of help from our community, and they’ve been really great in supporting us,” community development manager Caitlin Ausmann-Winn said.
The first few weeks in October have seen over 100 different animals adopted and finding their forever homes from the Humane Society here in the Black Hills and it’s all thanks to a special promo they’re running here in October all the way through Halloween.
Currently all cats and dogs older than six months are only $31, and all younger animals are half off. It’s all in an effort to get more pets into forever homes.
“It can be an intimidating process if you’ve not done it before and we just want people to know that we’re here to make sure that you’re getting the experience that you want. We’re trying to provide you with lots of accurate information about the animals, and then lots of tips for pet care. We want to make sure that we’re there post-adoption for our community as well,” Ausmann-Winn said.
When the shelter takes in more animals than there’s room for, like right now, it partners with surrounding shelters so every animal gets the care it needs.
The Humane Society of the Black Hills is open Thursday through Tuesday, and is always looking to connect animals with a new home.
