PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — Pierre hosts O’Gorman at Hollister Field Friday night in the KELOLAND Sports Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. on KELOXTRA and KELOLAND.com.

11AAA #5 O’GORMAN KNIGHTS

O’Gorman had a difficult schedule to begin the season. The state runner-up from a season ago faced the top-four ranked teams over the course of the first five weeks of the season. It comes into this game with a 1-4 record. The Knights lost to each of the teams ranked ahead of them (Harrisburg, Lincoln, Brandon Valley and Jefferson), and their lone win came in week four (46-7) at Rapid City Central.

The state’s fifth-ranked team is averaging 15.8 points per game, while allowing 23.6. It is being outscored 50-12 in the third quarter so far this season.

The Knights have used four different quarterbacks so far this season. Talen Black is projected to start under center. He is 34-for-64 with three touchdowns. Sullivan Schlimgen has accumulated 308 receiving yards and three TDs.

11AA PIERRE GOVERNORS

Pierre is the seven-time reigning champion in Class 11AA. It began the season with two wins but has dropped its last three games to the top three ranked teams in the class (Watertown, Brookings and Yankton).

The Governors are averaging 17.8 points a contest and give up 19.2. They have been held to a total of seven points over the last two weeks.

Junior Kaleb Lounsbury is in his first season starting under center. He has completed 71 of his 153 pass attempts with nine touchdowns. Carter Schiefelbein and Cooper Terwilliger have each tallied more than 200 receiving yards for the year. Trevor Rounds has 220 yards on the ground.

THE SERIES

This meeting will be the first between these two teams since they met in consecutive seasons in 2013 and 2014. They split those two matchups.

O’Gorman head coach Jayson Poppinga is facing off against the program he led from 2013-15.
