He ran into former Jets coach Nathaniel Hackett, who always walks fields or steps before games. Hackett gave Singleton a big hug. Hackett is a hugger. — Renck
Good morning from rainy New Jersey and MetLife Stadium (8:55 a.m.): The Broncos are on the field for every early warmups. Saw former Jets QB Zach Wilson having a chat with former Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett down on the field here more than two hours before kickoff.
The weather suggests a run-the-ball type of afternoon, but we’ll see about that. These two teams have also generated among the most pressure on opposing QBs in the early going of the season. Whoever generates more today will be in good shape. — Gabriel

Game predictions
Parker Gabriel, beat writer: Jets 24, Broncos 13
Bo Nix and the Denver offense made progress in Week 3 against Tampa Bay. This New York defense, though, is in a different class. They pressure the quarterback with four and have plenty of resources left over to cover. Vance Joseph’s defense is off to a great start and should play well even without Alex Singleton, but it’s a tall task to win back-to-back on the road, especially with a still-iffy offense.
Ryan McFadden, beat writer: Broncos 23, Jets 20
I know I’m in the minority here. Breece Hall has a good track record against the Broncos, Aaron Rodgers is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and the Jets’ pass rush will test Bo Nix. But I have faith in Vance Joseph and Denver’s defense, even after losing Alex Singleton for the season. This matchup will end with a game-winning field goal from Wil Lutz.
Troy Renck, columnist: Broncos 20, Jets 17
There is no reason Denver should win. The Broncos offense remains spotty, Bo Nix is under construction, and the defense lost Alex Singleton. But there is something about the Broncos bonding at The Greenbrier Resort that will make them see red with multiple takeaways and a big game from Tyler Badie. After knocking the smug smiles off the faces of Aaron Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett, Sean Payton will have Denver practice in Almost Heaven, West Virginia, for all remaining road games.

Welcome to the party, Kwon Alexander. No pressure. Looked up the last time Alex Singleton didn’t suit up for the orange and blue. Week 4 of the ’22 season, at Vegas. Didn’t end well. The Raiduhs rambled for 212 rushing yards on 38 carries. The Silver and Black and Josh McDaniels sent Nathaniel Hackett home with a 32-23 loss. Hackett’s Jets probably won’t hit the 30 mark in this one, but darned if he won’t try.

Renck: Aaron Rodgers-Nathaniel Hackett pairing may have delivered more Broncos wins, but would it have been worth it?
The Greenbrier Resort sits on 11,000 acres and features four golf courses, 20 dining options and one coach with an office. Sean Payton helped design the football footprint that led the New Orleans Saints to escape the heat, if not the internet, for three straight training camps here beginning in 2014.
As Payton rode around in his golf cart surveying the grounds this week, often flanked by family and friends, it is clear why he loves West Virginia.
But with apologies to John Denver, Payton’s “almost heaven” almost never happened. As the Broncos prepare to face the New York Jets, it is fascinating to consider the butterfly effect when looking at the franchise’s history over the past two years.

The second-year man is getting his first crack at real playing time as the starter opposite Pat Surtain II, and he’s catching on rapidly.
