SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — SiouxperCon is all about celebrating fan culture.

“Video games, board games, cosplay RPG, comic books, food trucks, progress scene. We kind of throw it all underneath one roof,” Gerlach said.

But it’s also about giving back to the community.

“Just a big fan convention that raises money for Make-A-Wish, GI Six and Reach Literacy. So, it’s, it’s going towards a positive cause,” SiouxperCon director Shane Gerlach said.

And with over 5,000 tickets pre-sold, organizers hope they can beat last year’s record-breaking attendance of over 10,000 people. Those who attend can take advantage of a number of activities.

One of those is a video game lounge.

“We want to just be able to provide an area where people who maybe haven’t played games that they enjoyed their childhood can come back and play a few rounds. We got games that are newer, so if people haven’t able to play new releases, they can give that try here instead of having to play it at home,” Zachary Waltman said.

The three-day event is run entirely by volunteers, all with a similar goal-supporting non-profits through a positive atmosphere.

“We all have an inner child. We all have something we love and there’s so much out there that we try to filter and ignore. You don’t have to worry about that in here,” Gerlach said.
