SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —Another hot and dry day is forecast in KELOLAND as this persistent weather pattern continues.

A Red Flag Warning has been posted for much of central and western South Dakota for critical fire danger. Highs will reach the 90s in these areas along with strong winds and low humidity.

It’s just the opposite issue in Florida. Hurricane Helene is taking aim at the panhandle of Florida late this afternoon and tonight. This storm will undergo rapid intensification and pose a major threat to the coastal areas. Storm surge could reach 15-20 feet ahead of the storm track.

Back here in KELOLAND, our weather is certainly quiet. Yesterday’s highs reached the 80s east and a few 90s West River.

Futurecast shows the 90s in much of western and central KELOLAND this afternoon, well above normal for this time of the year. Expect a gusty south wind ahead of a weak cold front that will march eastward tonight. Tomorrow should be a few degrees cooler in western KELOLAND, but Sioux Falls will likely return to the mid 80s on Friday.

A stronger cold front is expected to arrive in the northern plains by Monday, but the chance of rain with that front looks low. In fact, very little rain is ahead the next 10 days across our region.

Here are the details of the forecast.
