MANILA, Philippines–In a tribute to Robert Jaworski Sr. at the PBA Press Corps Awards Night, a pop-up exhibit featuring the living legend’s memorabilia was installed before entering the hall where the awarding rites were being held.

His son, Dodot Jaworski took the time to wonder at his father’s achievements and invaluable contributions to Philippine basketball.

One of the greatest PBA players ever wasn’t done as he added another feather to his cap on Tuesday night. This time, he was feted with the Lifetime Achievement Award, which Dodot received on behalf of the 13-time PBA champion player and coach.

“Reflecting on my career, I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have had and the people who have supported me,” said the younger Jaworski, who read the speech made by his father, who’s now 78 years old.

“From my early days with Toyota to my years with Barangay Ginebra, my journey in the PBA has been extraordinary, to say the least.”

Jaworski won nine titles with Toyota and three more as Ginebra’s playing coach before winning his last as Gordon’s Gin’s mentor. He holds the PBA all-time assists record with 5,825.

“Every challenge, every victory and every moment on the hard court taught me lessons that go way beyond basketball.”

Jaworski’s greatness was also on full display in the international scene, winning two gold medals for the Philippines in the Fiba Asia Championship in 1967 and 1973 and silver in 1971.
