SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls business that was once downtown, then moved to the Empire Mall, is coming back to downtown.

Intoxibakes opened in 2017 and has since served up sweet, alcohol-themed creations at a number of different locations.

“So we were in Brandon in the 1948 trading company. We moved into the Jones building. We moved into a different location in the Jones building. So I guess this would make five because then we moved to the mall in April and then will be moving in here,” Intoxibakes Co-owner, Shannon Johnson said.

Now, they are closing their Empire Mall location and moving back to downtown.

After taking over Candy Cloud Factory a year ago, the owners thought it’d be beneficial to combine the two businesses together.

“Getting rid of some of our overhead, the double rents, double payroll, double fees, you know, everything. So I think just by consolidating everything, the you know, the fees itself will save us a lot of money,” Intoxibakes Co-owner, Holly Jorgenson said.

“Ultimately, we took a poll seeing what our customers wanted, and it was pretty– a majority. I would say probably 80% of people wanted us back downtown,” Johnson said.

Along with the customers, the owners are excited about the move.

“We’re hoping to see a lot more foot traffic. We have decent foot traffic in our other location downtown and, at the mall, we just haven’t had the foot traffic that we would want there,” Johnson said.

As they ‘bake’ their way back downtown.

“I think by combining it with candy cloud we’ll kind of be able to have desserts for the moms and dads and also for the kids at the same time,” Jorgenson said.

The new location is planned to open by October 2nd.
