RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) –The Great Downtown Pumpkin Festival is coming back to Rapid City this weekend.

This event brings together pumpkin contests for all, and fun activities for kids.

There will be plenty of activities for kids including pumpkin painting, bouncing castles, and pumpkin catapulting.

“3 buck chuck which is over there. Which is kind of cool because it will give children the opportunity to use a smaller scale catapult and kind of catapult some pumpkins at different targets,” Events Manager Destiny Cash said.

Families can also enjoy live music, large pumpkin contests as well as the catapult contest put on by the School of Mines, and that’s not all.

“We are going to do a touch-a-truck event where we will be bringing out a lot of the city equipment for people to get up close and personal. Climb up in the driver’s seat, see how it works and talk to the people who work the equipment everyday,” Interim Assistant Director of Public Works Shannon Truax said.

For adults, it’s an opportunity to learn more about a potential career.

For kids, it’s a chance to experience to check out trucks

“Little kids love equipment and getting to climb up inside an excavator is just the highlight of their day,” Truax said.

“Just bringing life to downtown. We’re an amazing community and these events make downtown feel even more welcoming and Rapid City even more welcoming to our tourists, to our locals, to everybody that’s here,” Cash said.

Downtown businesses will have a scarecrow contest, plus there’s a downtown pub crawl.

The Great Downtown Pumpkin Festival runs from ten in the morning until four at night this Saturday.
