SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A local furniture store is going out of business after 20 years in Sioux Falls.

Steinberg’s Furniture along West 12th Street has pieces to fit almost every style from leather to woodwork.

There are also thousands of rugs to flip through. And right now it’s all on sale because the owners are retiring.

“I guess the reason we’re starting to retire — we’re getting a little older, this stuff is getting a lot heavier than it used to be,” owner Dan Steinberg said.

Dan Steinberg opened this store in 2004. With 20 years in business there comes a lot of memories — perhaps some that stick out more than others.

“About February of 2005, which I had been in business three months then my wife walked in the door,” Dan Steinberg said.

“I walked in looking for furniture and I walked out with a date,” Diane Steinberg, Dan’s wife, said.

Now they are ready to create some new memories.

“Traveling, we like to boat, we like to hunt, spend time with our family and grandkids,” Diane Steinberg said.

But before they can do that, they have a lot of inventory to sell.

“We do have quite a bit of furniture to sell yet, like a lot,” Dan Steinberg said. “We got about four thousand rugs yet to sell.”

“We got three warehouses, four pods, two more truckloads that we already committed to prior to us announcing,” Diane Steinberg said. “So we will have furniture probably well into Spring.”

Which means a few more months to say their goodbyes and celebrate with lower prices.

“We would just like to thank Sioux Falls for 20 great years,” Dan Steinberg said. “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Everybody come in and say goodbye to us or whatever they need to do or stop in and pick up an item or two to help us retire.”

Dan and Diane, along with their kids, have been the main employees of Steinberg’s Furniture.
