ROWENA, S.D. (KELO) — Bike Night has come to an end, but the summer of giving rolls on at Red Rock Bar & Grill.
Nearly 100 classic cars lined the parking lot at Red Rock Bar & Grill Wednesday night.
“We’re switching gears from Bike Night, motorcycle night, to Classic Car Night, street rodder night,” Red Rock Bar & Grill owner Mitch Runge said.
The Great Plains Street Rodders set up shop for one night only. Runge used the event as another opportunity to give back to the Children’s Home Society.
“We just feel it’s important to help in the community,” Runge said. “The amount of things and activities they do over there is endless, they never stop over there so the need is never-ending,” Runge added.
“Car guys, much like the motorcycle community, are kind of all about getting together and supporting the community,” car enthusiast Tom Olsen said.
Olsen is a car enthusiast and one of the event’s organizers.
“We’ve got a little over 300 members and every Wednesday night, all summer long, we do a Cruise Night to a different location around town,” Olsen said. “Muscle cars, street rods, you’ll see some rat rods, some late model performance cars. You name it, we’ve got them,” Olsen added.
“A place to go eat, a place to socialize, a place to drive their cars to, we go all over the community,” car enthusiast Bernie Tyrrell said.
Tyrrell owned his own garage in De Smet before his 21st birthday. He brought his ’46 Ford to Cruise Night and says the weekly get-together is something special.
“Most of these car shows have some kind of charitable deal that they do and it’s always good for the community, good for the businesses, good for everything. It’s good for your heart because you look at that car and say ‘I had one like that!’,” Tyrrell said.
And they’re always looking for new old cars.
The Great Plains Street Rodders will host their final Summer Cruise of the year next Wednesday at StraightLines Custom Restorations in Tea. The event runs from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
