JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police have confirmed the arrest of a high school student accused of directing threats at Crothersville High School in Jackson County Wednesday morning.
According to ISP, officers were notified around 9:30 a.m. by school officials who told them that a student, identified as 18-year-old James Collman, had allegedly threatened to cause harm to another student and the entire school.
An officer from the Crothersville Police Department arrived at the school a short time later and detained Collman, ISP said.
The alleged threats led to the evacuation of the Crothersville School Building as multiple law enforcement agencies also responded to assist in the investigation. These included the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Excise Police and Brownstown Police Department.
ISP said the Administration of Crothersville Schools soon decided to cancel classes for the rest of the day as additional officers remained on scene until all of the students were safely evacuated from the school grounds.
Once all of the students and staff were evacuated, authorities conducted a thorough search of the building. Students and staff were eventually given the all-clear to return after officers found no weapons or explosive devices. A New Albany Police Department K-9 and the Columbus Police Department Bomb Squad assisted in clearing out the building.
Following an investigation, ISP confirmed that Collman was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail where he was preliminarily charged with a felony count of intimidation. ISP added that Collman could face additional charges in the future.
