SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Governor Kristi Noem has named September 15-21 Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in South Dakota.

In a press release, Governor Noem highlighted the need for and immense value of adult education and family literacy programs.

The release states that 15% of adults in South Dakota are lacking in essential literacy skills.

Adult Education and Family Literacy Week aims to provide educational programs that “foster lifelong learning and personal growth.”

“We believe education is a powerful tool for change,” said state Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman in the press release. “Adult Education and Family Literacy Week is an opportunity to bring attention to the critical need for educational resources and to celebrate the achievements of those working to improve their lives and communities.”
