SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) –The LifeLight Sioux Falls Festival at Nelson Park includes Christian music performers along with a kids play area, food vendors and stunt skateboarders. The musical lineup includes The Newsboys, KB, Blessing Offor, The Afters, Bryan Olesen & VOTA, Rhett Walker, Micah Taylor, Leanna Crawford and Lara Silva. Main stage activities begin at noon. Admission is free.
It’s Department of Public Safety Day at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron. Today’s activities include a petting zoo and pony rides at 9 a.m., carnival rides starting at 10 a.m., an antique tractor show and ranch rodeo at 11 a.m., highway patrol dog demonstrations at 1 p.m., a puppet magic show at 3 p.m. and Trace Adkins with Tyler Halverson perform in the grandstand starting at 8 p.m. The state fair runs through Monday.
More than two-dozen Sioux Falls restaurants are competing in the Downtown Pork Showdown that gets underway today. Customers can vote on the best pork dish, based upon flavor, tenderness and presentation, through the month of September.
American Legion Post 15 in Sioux Falls is hosting an all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast. Serving time is 8:30 a.m. to noon at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. The cost is $8, $2 for children. Donations are also welcome.
The Daughters of the Nile is hosting a Vendor Craft Fair at the El Riad Shrine in downtown Sioux Falls. The hours are noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free. They’ll also be collecting gift cards for Shriners children.
It’s Fall Festival time at Country Apple Orchard in Harrisburg, SD. Activities include picking your own apples, a petting zoo, apple cannon range, a zip line and corn maze. Today’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $14.95. Free for kids under three feet tall. The Fall Festival runs every weekend through October.
This is the final day the City of Sioux Falls outdoor pools are open for the year. Kuehn Pool, Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center, Pioneer Spray Park and the Hayward Park Splash Pad are open from 1-8 p.m.
It’s also the last weekend to enjoy the water slides, wave pool and lazy river at Wild Water West water park west of Sioux Falls. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Sunday. Labor Day hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Learn about the many animals that call South Dakota home during Tracks & Facts at Hartford Beach State Park on Big Stone Lake in Roberts County. They’ll have pelts, track, scat, and bones to check out from 10 to 11 a.m. A park entrance license in required.
The Heartland County Corn Maze, east of Harrisburg on Highway 11, is open for its 25th season. The 11-acre maze is open from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $9, $6 for children and free for ages 4 and under.
The Studebaker, Packard Car & Truck Show is taking place in downtown Custer, SD. Several models and makes of vehicles going back decades will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mountain Time. Admission is free. Visitors can vote for their favorite vehicle on display.
Siouxland Heritage Museums is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new exhibit called Courthouse Chronicles, to show visitors how the original Minnehaha County Courthouse has changed through the years. The exhibit is at the Old Courthouse Museum in downtown Sioux Falls. The hours are noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
