PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) — Officials want to caution citizens of a scam going around.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office shared a post on X that a scam is going around involving a fake letter from the South Dakota Government demanding payment of taxes.
Pennington County Treasurer Annette Brandt says some of these letters are circulating in Pennington County.
There are many ways to detect a scam, including urgency in demanding payment, unofficial seals and more. If you think you are being scammed, do not send money and instead contact local officials.
