HONOLULU (AP) – Tropical Storm Hone has increased to a Category 1 hurricane while continuing its steady approach toward Hawaii late Saturday.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu says in an 11 p.m. Saturday advisory that Hone had top winds of 75 mph. The minimum threshold for a hurricane is 74 mph.

Forecasters say it could bring flooding and wind damage to the Big Island and raise wildfire risks on the drier sides.

The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for Hawaii County, which includes all of the Big Island.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority is telling travelers it’s still safe to come to the islands but it recommends people postpone outdoor activities. The agency is not telling visitors to cancel their trips.
