The Tennessee Titans (2-0) look to close out an undefeated preseason when they take on the New Orleans Saints (1-1) on Sunday afternoon. As head coach Brian Callahan outlined, this is not only the final chance for players to catch the eye of the coaching staff, it will be the last time to get the starters some work before Week 1.
After resting the majority of the first team against the Seattle Seahawks, he indicated that the starters will play approximately three series this week. A fact that PFF noted in their weekly preview.
Storyline of the Game: Titans look to get starters going in the finale
Tennessee sat 38 players in their preseason win this past week, but attention will now turn to the headliners as the Titans are expected to get their starters a few drives with Week 1 on the horizon. Second-year QB Will Levis could surely use some live reps to acclimate for the season, having dropped back just six times so far.
With most of the starters back on the field (even for just a handful of series), this will affect the battles in the back half of the roster. As noted during a press availability, there are really only four to six spots up for grabs as cut-down day looms. Adding the starters back into the mix will limit the available reps for those fighting for their position.
One thing is certain: Callahan and his staff will have some interesting and tough decisions to make in the coming days as they trim the roster from 90 to 53. Not every player who suits up for the Titans on Sunday will make the roster. For those on the outside of the roster bubble, this will be their last chance to build some tape and possibly catch the eye of another team.
