SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Drew Sorenson works in sales at Silencer Central in Sioux Falls.
Before Sorenson was an employee, he was a customer because of a hunting accident.
“I can’t hear out of my left ear anymore and it just rings all day, every day, so that’s what got me into purchasing suppressors from Brandon back in the day,” Sorenson said.
Brandon Maddox is the founder and CEO of Silencer Central.
He’s currently the leader of the second-fastest growing company in the state, according to Inc. Magazine.
Private businesses land on the list based on their percentage revenue growth from 2020 to 2023.
Silencer Central’s revenue grew 385 percent.
“We’re super excited. South Dakota is a big state, there’s a lot of businesses here,” Maddox said.
Maddox started the business in 2005, operating out of his basement and selling at gun shows in the Dakotas.
“And then we just sort of grew from there,” Maddox said.
Like many businesses, Silencer Central found itself pivoting during the pandemic.
“Unfortunately, during COVID, all of our operations were pretty much cut off because that’s all we did was events, so we reinvented ourselves to do direct-to-consumer advertising all across the country,” Maddox said.
It won’t be long before there’s another reason to celebrate.
The business will mark 20 years in 2025.
“It’s a fun, fast-paced environment to be involved in,” Sorenson said.
The top growing business in South Dakota is Wild Oak Boutique, an online store that sells women’s clothing.
