OWEN COUNTY, Ind. — Nearly 350 animals were recovered from an Owen County home last month as deputies conducted an animal seizure involving several different species.

According to the Owen County Humane Society, workers were called to assist deputies with the Owen County Sheriff’s Department on July 8 at a residence located on Truesdel Road in the town of Gosport.

The Owen County Humane Society said authorities found several hundred different species of animals on the property that were “without food or water.” The nonprofit organization added that many dead animals were also found in cages.

Owen County Humane Society said it took in 243 animals on July 8 and 105 additional animals on July 18 for a total of 348. Of that total, authorities seized the following:

  • 17 dogs and puppies
  • 29 ducks
  • 225 chickens
  • 21 sheep
  • Nine rabbits
  • 25 goats
  • Four horses
  • Four pigs
  • Two cows
  • Two bearded dragons
  • 10 cats and kittens

The Indiana State Board of Animal Health also assisted.
